I think it was high school when i overheard some white girl put on her best semi-disgusted and confused voice and go “why do so many Mexicans dress up like cowboys?” and I had to be the person to tell her.

IF people acknowledge it, they play the necessity card– there weren’t any women out on the range, so they had to “resort to men.” this claim completely erases 1) the romantic (not just sexual) writings of actual cowboys, 2) the acknowledgement of cowboys’ potential homosexual activity by writers at the time, and 3) the possibility that some men would deliberately become cowboys with the intent to seek out homosexual encounters.
no one wants to admit it, but cowboy culture was just. so inherently gay.

❌ Allows any CA resident to SUE producer or performer/producer if they don’t see a condom in the video. (Um…)
❌ If sued, performers/producers are forced to disclose legal name and address - most small performer/producers work out of their homes. Many have stalkers. 😵
❌ Requires us to register with the *government* for $100. 😳
❌ Requires us to pay $100 PER VIDEO and register names, STI results to the government.
❌ These costs will impact marginalized workers most.
❌ Will give CA resident incentive to sue by awarding them 25% of our fine! 😡
❌ Requires producers to pay testing cost for EACH film. (Couples included! Many performers shoot multiple videos a week, which could mean getting tested (paying for one another’s $150-290 STI tests) a daily occurrence.)
❌ Requires producers keep test records for four years. ❌ Individuals can be sued for $70K. 😵
❌ Does not require those suing to have even purchased the porn in question. 😡 Many lawsuits may come from old pirated porn; companies outside CA may block the state to prevent legal complications. ❌ Many other reasons. TL;DR Doesn’t actually encourage or incentivize condom use.
❌ There’s MORE, but in general it’s bad news all around. Want to see more condoms in porn? Pay for films that feature it, support companies that encourage it, understand it’s our bodies and we know what’s best!! ❌❌❌
