HACKberry, the open sourced 3D printed bionic hand created by Japanese company exiii, is not only more functional than some prosthetic hands, but is also obtainable at just a fraction of the price.
Dean Kamen’s DEKA Arm is an electronic prosthetic that mimics natural arm and hand movement with an amazing level of finesse. It’s controlled by electrical signals from the wearer’s muscles. This week, the DEKA Arm became the first muscle-controlled prostheticapproved by the FDA for sale to the general public.
In the FDA study, 90% of test subjects were able to quickly adapt to using the DEKA Arm for tasks that were impossible with traditional arm prosthetics, like brushing hair and using keys and zippers.
This fictional advertising campaign is a dystopian take on a future with room only for those able to afford their own body parts. The campaign idea and the products have all been designed and illustrated by Chantal Sherif, with art direction from Tarek Abdelkawi.
I used olympic athletes as an inspiration and a metaphor for physical superiority in the posters, and I translated sports and movements into organs.
