So #Starbucks has begun to penalize its employees for taking home out of date food. So anything that would have fed us and our families or donated to pantries and shelters must now be trashed under penalty of termination. Please call or tweet #starbucks and let them know you think this is horrible.

So let me reiterate exactly why this is horrible:

Because not only are they wasting food, they are taking food out of peoples mouths who needed it.

A lot of those people being the very people that starbucks employs, because even at a higher than minimum wage most places do not pay a living wage, many food service workers subsist on the food they serve to make ends meed each month.

On top of taking that food they are branding these people who are mostly trying to feed themselves, friends and family thieves. They are terminating people for “acts of theft” for food that is unfit to sell. Which not only takes money out of their pockets ( a still not livable wage even if they boast a higher than minimum one) but they are also blacklisting people from getting hired elsewhere.

And even when the food was not going to starbucks staff often times would be handed out by us or others to homeless people, or collected by churches and shelters.

Starbucks is not gaining any money through this policy, this policy does not benefit the customer. They are literally punishing us for being hungry and not paying for the food that many of us could not afford otherwise.
