Men rape women. Many times murdering women in the process. More often than not, men rape women so brutally that internal organs are completely damaged. During wars, during ethnic cleansings, men rape women. They systematically rape women as a form of punishment and as a form of genocide. Men carry out some of the most horrendous forms of sexual violence against women, including impaling women with guns, and biting or cutting off sexual organs during rape.
When we are discussing rape, it is not some lone wolf, and a monster from the dark corners of society. Rape is systematic, and allows men to get away with rape, and even be rewarded for it, at a societal level.
We often talk about how women who are the victims and survivors of rape are someone’s mother, daughter, sister, etc. But we always portray the rapist as a lone monster. When, in fact, these rapists are everyday men: also someone’s father, son, brother. They rape women with impunity because of misogyny. Because they know that this systematic violence against women will allow them to get away with it.
We are left with such an apologetic culture of confrontation today. Where feminists will continuously apologise to men; always make room for men; always focus on making men feel comfortable and liked. Stating “men rape women” is considered a taboo. A plethora of nonsense will emerge on how there are different circumstances for different men, blah blah blah. The way in which men have systematically raped women, and do so today as well, is brushed under the carpet.
